MA Religious Studies trajectory “Mysticism and Western Esotericism”

The MA Religious Studies trajectory “Mysticism and Western Esotericism” can be followed in a one-year and a two-year variant. In order to be admitted to the two-year program (or research master), students will have to submit an individual application. The selection criteria will be: previous study results and length of study in the BA, quality of BA thesis, individual motivation, and consistency of the proposed MA study program.
Because the Faculty of Humanities is still in a transitional period between the old system and the new BA/MA system, at this time it is not yet possible to be formally admitted to the two-year research master or apply for it. However, students who wish to do the two-year program have the option (if they meet the formal criteria, outlined below) of first enrolling in the one-year variant after the summer 2002. They will then have to apply for extension of their program into a two-year research master by the summer of 2003.

The one-year MA Religious Studies can be followed by three categories of students:
  • Students who have completed a BA program in Religious Studies at a Dutch university.
To register for the MA, contact the Onderwijsbalie (Education Desk): Oude Turfmarkt 147, 1012 GC, Amsterdam. Tel.: 020 525 4952, Monday to Thursday, 11.00-12.30 and 13.30-15.; Fax: 020 525 4392; e-mail: info-krc-fgw@uva.nl. Opening hours: Monday to Thursday, 11.00-15.00

  • Dutch or foreign students who do not meet the formal criteria of the two previous categories, but who have completed a BA program which is judged to be sufficient as a preparation for the MA. Decisions in these cases will be taken on an individual basis.
