Egil Asprem

Egil Asprem (1984) is a Ph.D. Researcher at the Center GHF. He received a double BA in Religious Studies and Philosophy at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in 2006, and completed the Research MA Religious Studies at the University of Amsterdam in 2008. In his earlier research Egil has specialised in modern occultism and ritual magic, and especially their relation to facets of late modernity, the growth of modern science, and secular culture. Currently Egil is working on a Ph.D. project on western esotericism and scientific naturalism in the 20th century. The project, funded by the NWO TopTalent programme, aims to analyze exchanges, frictions, points of interconnection, dialogue and polemic between scientific and esoteric discourse in the 20th century (see ‘Research’ for more information). Other research interests include Thelema, contemporary paganism, popular occulture, Kabbalah, the history of ritual magic, the history and philosophy of science, and method and theory in the study of religion and esotericism.
