Scarlet Women: Gender and Sexuality in Twentieth-Century Western Esotericism

On May 11, 16:00-17:30, Dr. Manon Hedenborg White (University of Amsterdam/Södertörn University) will be giving an open lecture in the context of the RMA seminar Current Issues in Religious Studies and Western Esotericism, entitled “Scarlet Women: Gender and Sexuality in Twentieth-Century Western Esotericism”. This talk will explore her previous research on the goddess Babalon and femininities in Aleister Crowley’s Thelema, and her current research “Power through Closeness? Female Authority and Agency in a New Religion” on women and religious authority in 20th century Thelema.
