Dr. Liana Saif at UvA and Prof. Charles Burnett at the Warburg Institute are presenting the reading class “Occult Sciences and Esoteric Traditions”. This is one of the most successful reading classes at the Warburg.
The class will run online, and will take place on Fridays 1:00 p.m. – 2:15 p.m. (UK) which is 2:00 – 3:15 p.m. (Netherlands). Our readers come from different disciplines and it is free. Although attendance is not compulsory, regular participation is encouraged.
In this class, we read, translate, and comment on texts written in Arabic or Latin (especially texts which were translated from Arabic into Latin) on all branches of the occult sciences and esoteric traditions; talismans and ceremonial magic, divination, alchemy, astrology, science of letters etc. A familiarity with Arabic or/and Latin is essential. Although, please note, that the next text we will read is the Persian and Arabic magic text by Tinkalusha al-Babili (Teucer/Teucros the Babylonian) on the images of the decans, guided by the Warburg’s new Ouseley Fellow Kayvan Tahmasebian, an opportunity we could not miss. So, if you have Farsi, you are most welcome.
To take part, please contact Liana Saif on: Lianasaif at hotmail.com to add you the mailing list, share the reading materials, and zoom link.
