Philosophy & Study of Esotericism – workshop organized by the HHP centre 5-6 june 2024

On 5-6 June 2024 this workshop, organized by the fellow researcher at the HHP centre Olli Pitkänen, is offered at the University of Amsterdam, in the Oudemanhuispoort. Wouter Hanegraaff and Marco Pasi of the HHP centre are also participating.

The aim of the workshop is to bring together philosophers and scholars of esotericism to discuss the intersection of these disciplines mainly through examples of esoteric thought within academic philosophy.
Esotericism was for a long time a topic that very few people in the academy saw worth exploring. This has changed since the early 1990´s when the study of esotericism started to flourish as a new multidisciplinary field within the academic world. Since then, the field has grown into many directions and it covers a wide array of different topics and perspectives. However, there is not much discussion about esotericism within the philosophical tradition especially after the 19th century, and there are not many scholars with a background in philosophy. Even more so, apart from few exceptions such as Glenn Alexander Magee and Sean McGrath, philosophers have not reacted in any way to the emerging field of the study of esotericism.

The event is free of charge, but registration is required in order to assess the catering. Lunch is by everyone´s own expense, but pastry is served during the coffee breaks.
Please register and inform about special diets until 31 May 2024.
