Wouter Hanegraaff’s first lecture in the Infinite Fire Webinar series focuses on the concept of “Platonic Orientalism” – one of the most central concepts of Hanegraaff’s  book, Esotericism and the Academy , is “Platonic Orientalism”. The role of platonic orientalism in the renaissance has had enormous influence on the formation of “Western esotericism”, according to Hanegraaff, in particular by supplying one of its most characteristic traits: the “ancient wisdom” narrative.
